Pixel2Tech is a design and development studio in Lahore, Pakistan that works with clients in the US, UK and Europe, and offers the design services discussed here.
Key takeaways
- The US median wage for graphic designers was $30.27 an hour in May 2025 (BLS), and UK salaries run £25,000 to £40,000 a year; agency rates on Clutch cluster at $150-$199 (US-heavy directory) and £100-£149 (UK).
- On Clutch's Pakistan graphic design directory in September 2026, most firms listed average rates under $50 an hour, with minimum projects mostly $1,000 or $5,000.
- UK and EU teams get several hours of live overlap with a Pakistan workday; US teams mostly get an overnight handoff plus an early-morning call slot.
- Paying for design does not transfer copyright in the US, the UK or Pakistan. Get a written, signed assignment and a list of every licensed font and stock asset.
- Pay by Wise, Payoneer or international wire, in stages tied to approved work, and start with a two-week paid trial on a real brief before any retainer.

Why do US, UK and European companies outsource graphic design to Pakistan?
Companies in the US, UK and Europe outsource graphic design to Pakistan to get steady creative output at well below local rates, from English-speaking designers who can work through briefs while the client's team is offline. It suits repeatable work with a clear brand kit better than first-time brand strategy that needs constant live discussion.
The cost gap is the obvious reason. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the May 2025 median wage for graphic designers at $62,960 a year, or $30.27 an hour, before payroll taxes, benefits, software and equipment. In the UK, the government's National Careers Service lists typical salaries of £25,000 for a starter up to £40,000 for an experienced designer.
Agencies charge far more than a salary works out to per hour, because their rate covers account management, overhead and profit. That is the comparison most marketing managers and agency owners are really making: not offshore versus a new hire, but offshore versus the local studio they already pay.
Pakistan's industry is organized enough to vet. The Pakistan Software Export Board registers IT and IT-enabled services companies and freelancers. Registration does not guarantee quality, but it is a useful first filter.
It is a weaker fit when nobody on your side can give clear, consolidated feedback, or when the work depends on local cultural references your designer has never seen. In those cases, budget for a longer first month, share more examples than feels necessary, and treat the first batch as calibration.
How do offshore design rates compare with US, UK and EU options?
The table pulls together salary data and published agency rate bands, all checked in September 2026. Clutch rates are self-reported averages and the directories change as firms join and leave, so read the bands as a snapshot, not a price list.
- Compare output, not hourly rates. Send every shortlisted partner the same sample brief and compare the quoted total, the included revision rounds and the delivery date.
- Add your own management time. A cheaper partner who needs three rounds of feedback per piece can cost more than a pricier one who gets it right in one.
- Ask whether the quote includes source files, font and stock licensing, and resizes for every placement. These are the usual gaps between two quotes that look alike.
| Option | Typical figure | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| US in-house graphic designer | $62,960 a year median ($30.27 an hour) | BLS, May 2025 data; salary only, before benefits and overhead |
| UK in-house graphic designer | £25,000 to £40,000 a year | National Careers Service, starter to experienced |
| Design firms on Clutch's main directory (mostly US) | Most common band: $150 to $199 an hour | Includes art direction, account management and overhead |
| UK design firms on Clutch | Most common band: £100 to £149 an hour | Minimum projects mostly £1,000 to £10,000 |
| German design firms on Clutch | Most common band: $100 to $149 an hour | Clutch lists these rates in USD |
| Pakistani design firms on Clutch | Most firms under $50 an hour | Minimum projects mostly $1,000 or $5,000 |
Which engagement model fits your design workload?
The model matters more than the country. Pick it based on how much work you have each month and how much art direction you can give.
Agencies that resell design under their own brand usually want a studio with backup designers, because a missed deadline lands on their client relationship. Our guide to white-label creative for agencies covers that setup.
| Model | Best for | Pricing | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marketplace freelancer | One-off pieces with a tight brief | Per project or hourly | Quality varies from job to job; no backup |
| Dedicated designer | A steady weekly queue of social, ad and sales assets | Monthly fee for a set number of hours | Paying for idle time if your queue runs dry |
| Studio retainer | Mixed work that needs a designer plus art direction and QA | Monthly fee for a defined output or hours | Vague scope turns into arguments about what counts |
| Project agency | Brand identity, packaging systems, campaign launches | Fixed fee per project phase | Change requests once the brief shifts |
What should you outsource first?
Start with work that has clear rules and a lot of volume. A designer several time zones away can produce excellent work from a strong brand kit, but will struggle to guess taste from a two-line brief.
- Social media creatives: post templates, carousels, story frames and resizes.
- Ad variants: new hooks, headlines and formats built from a winning concept.
- Sales decks and one-pagers built on your existing template.
- Packaging adaptations: new flavors, sizes or languages on an approved design.
- Book covers and interior graphics, where the brief is concrete and the format is fixed.
- Product visuals and mockups for ecommerce listings.
Keep strategy close until the brand is settled
A new brand identity is a different kind of project. It needs discovery, stakeholder interviews and several rounds of live discussion. You can still outsource it, but budget for more calls and a longer timeline. Our brand identity process for startups explains the stages, and if you only need a mark, the logo design cost guide compares price ranges.
Our own studio work covers several items on the list above: social and ad creative for MADLUVV, a Shopify brand; creative for Swishtag, a Shopify Plus agency; product visuals for Nayyer Carpets; and book cover design.
What should the brief and the file handover include?
A good brief tells the designer who the piece is for, what it must do, where it will appear and what has already been decided. A good handover gives you editable source files you could pass to any other designer tomorrow.
Most wasted revision rounds trace back to the brief, not the designer. Offshore work makes this sharper, because the designer cannot lean over and ask a quick question. Write the brief once, save it as a template, and reuse it for every request.
Agree the delivery format in writing at the start. Final files should land in a shared folder you own, such as your company Google Drive, Dropbox or a Figma team you pay for, not in the designer's personal account.
- Goal: the one action or feeling the piece should create, such as a click to a product page or trust in a new service.
- Audience and placement: who sees it, on which platform, at which exact sizes, with any safe zones for text or buttons.
- Copy: final text supplied by you, with the headline marked. For UK and EU audiences, say whether to use British or American spelling.
- Mandatory elements: logo version, product shots, legal lines, offer terms.
- References: two or three examples you like and one you do not, with a sentence on why.
- Deliverables: exported files (PNG, JPG, PDF, SVG as needed) plus layered source files in Figma, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or InDesign.
- Naming and versions: one agreed file-naming pattern with version numbers, so nobody reviews an old draft.
- Deadline and review: when drafts are due in your time zone and who gives the single round of feedback.
How much working-time overlap will you get?
Pakistan runs on UTC+5 all year with no daylight saving time, according to time.is. The gap to your office changes when your clocks change: UK and EU clocks go back on October 25, 2026, and US clocks on November 1, 2026.
- Send briefs and feedback before the end of your workday so the designer starts on them first thing.
- Nominate one person to consolidate feedback into a single round, left as comments on the file.
- Keep a living brand kit: logo files, colors, fonts, photography rules and do-and-don't examples. Our guide to brand guidelines for small businesses lists what to include.
- Hold one short weekly call for priorities; handle everything else in comments and a shared tracker.
| Your city | Summer time | Winter time | 8:00 a.m. your time is |
|---|---|---|---|
| New York (Eastern) | 9 hours | 10 hours | 5:00 p.m. / 6:00 p.m. in Pakistan |
| Los Angeles (Pacific) | 12 hours | 13 hours | 8:00 p.m. / 9:00 p.m. in Pakistan |
| London (UK) | 4 hours | 5 hours | 12:00 p.m. / 1:00 p.m. in Pakistan |
| Berlin, Paris (CET) | 3 hours | 4 hours | 11:00 a.m. / 12:00 p.m. in Pakistan |
UK and European teams: live overlap
Assuming a 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Pakistan workday, a London team shares about five hours of working time in summer and four in winter, and a team on Central European Time shares about six and five. That is enough for a morning call, same-day revisions and quick questions in chat.
US teams: overnight handoff
US East Coast teams get almost no overlap with a standard Pakistan workday, and the West Coast gets none. The upside is an overnight cycle: send the brief or consolidated feedback before you log off, and drafts are waiting the next morning. For calls, ask whether the studio can take an 8:00 or 9:00 a.m. Eastern slot, which falls in the Pakistan evening.
Who owns the designs you pay for?
You own a design only if a written, signed contract transfers the copyright to you. Paying the invoice alone does not do it in the US, the UK or Pakistan.
In the US, a commissioned work is a work made for hire only if it falls into one of nine categories listed in 17 U.S.C. § 101 and both parties sign a written agreement saying so. Logos, social graphics and ad designs from an outside supplier usually do not fit those categories. The safer route is a copyright assignment, which the Copyright Act requires to be in writing and signed by the rights owner.
The UK position is similar. The Intellectual Property Office's guidance on ownership of copyright works says a contractor working under a contract for services usually keeps the copyright unless the contract says otherwise, and that without clear terms a commissioner may get only a limited licence. EU member states have their own rules, so have a local lawyer check the clause if you are based there.
Pakistan's law matters because the designer works there. Under the Copyright Ordinance, 1962, an employer is the first owner of work made by employees in the course of employment unless they agree otherwise, and assignments must be in writing and signed. The ordinance also limits an assignment made directly by an individual author to ten years in most cases. Contracting with a registered company whose employees create your work avoids that trap. This is general information, not legal advice.
- Assignment of copyright in all final deliverables and source files, effective on payment.
- A list of third-party assets (fonts, stock photos, icons) with licenses in your name or transferable to you.
- A confidentiality clause covering unreleased products and client data. If the studio will handle personal data of UK or EU customers, ask your privacy lead what data protection terms you need.
- Governing law and jurisdiction you are comfortable with, usually your own.
- Permission, or not, for the studio to show the work in its portfolio.
How do you pay a design team in Pakistan from the US, UK or Europe?
Most buyers use one of three routes. Wise sends money from your account to the studio's local bank account in Pakistan, and the studio does not need a Wise account to receive it. Payoneer gives the studio local receiving details in several currencies, so you can pay by ACH, wire, local bank transfer or card, or through a Payoneer invoice or payment link. An international wire (SWIFT) to the studio's business account also works, though bank fees can apply on both ends.
Stripe invoices are a common request, but Pakistan is not on Stripe's list of supported countries as of September 2026. A Pakistani studio can only bill through Stripe if it has a company in a supported country, so ask before you assume.
Pay in stages. For projects: a deposit, a payment on concept approval and a final payment on delivery of source files. For retainers: monthly against a written list of deliverables or hours, with a short delivery log attached to each invoice.
UK buyers registered for VAT should note that HMRC's place of supply guidance applies the reverse charge when a UK business buys general-rule B2B services from a supplier outside the UK. EU buyers should ask their accountant how the equivalent rule applies in their country.
How do you vet a partner and run a two-week paid trial?
A portfolio shows taste. It does not show reliability, speed or how the designer handles feedback. Check all four before you commit, then let a short paid trial settle the question.
- Ask for three projects similar to yours and the brief behind each one. Good designers can explain why they made each choice.
- Ask for a layered source file from a past project, with client details removed. Messy layers and flattened text predict messy handovers.
- Speak to one reference, ideally in your own country, about deadlines and revisions.
- Ask how they license fonts, stock photos and icons, and in whose name.
- Check that the legal name on the contract matches the invoice and the bank account, and ask for PSEB registration if it is a Pakistani company.
- Pay for the test at the normal rate and judge the result, the questions asked and the delivery time together.
| When | What happens | What you check |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Kickoff call, brand kit handover, brief for a real batch of work | Did they ask useful questions? |
| Days 2 to 4 | First drafts delivered | On brand? On time? Files organized? |
| Day 5 | One consolidated feedback round from you | Is your feedback clear and in one place? |
| Days 6 to 8 | Revisions and a second batch of work | Did they apply feedback without new errors? |
| Days 9 to 10 | Final files, source files and license list | Could another designer pick up these files tomorrow? |
After the trial: pick the ongoing model
Count the pieces you actually requested over the two weeks and multiply out to a month. A steady queue points to a dedicated designer or a retainer; a spiky one points to per-project work.
If the trial went badly, the cost was two weeks and a small invoice, not a year-long contract. Write down what went wrong, because the same issues will show up with the next partner if they came from your side of the brief.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to outsource graphic design to Pakistan?
It depends on volume, complexity and how much art direction you need. On Clutch's Pakistan directory in September 2026, most design firms listed average rates under $50 an hour, with minimum projects mostly $1,000 or $5,000. Compare that with a most common band of $150 to $199 on Clutch's mostly US directory and £100 to £149 for UK firms. Always compare quotes against the same sample brief.
Is it safe for a US or UK company to outsource design to Pakistan?
Yes, with basic safeguards. Contract with a registered company, check references in your own country, and start with a small paid trial. Put a written copyright assignment, a confidentiality clause and a license list in the contract, keep your brand files in a shared folder you control, and pay in stages tied to approved work rather than in full upfront.
What are Pakistan's working hours compared with the US, UK and Europe?
Pakistan is UTC+5 and does not change its clocks. It is 9 hours ahead of New York and 12 ahead of Los Angeles until November 1, 2026, then 10 and 13. It is 4 hours ahead of London and 3 ahead of Berlin until October 25, 2026, then 5 and 4. UK and EU teams get several hours of live overlap; US teams mostly work on an overnight handoff.
How do I pay a design studio in Pakistan?
The usual routes are Wise, Payoneer and an international bank wire. Payoneer lets clients pay by ACH, wire, local bank transfer or card. Stripe does not support Pakistan-based accounts as of September 2026, so Stripe invoices only work if the studio has a company elsewhere. Pay per milestone or monthly against a written list of deliverables.
Who owns the designs I pay for?
Only what your contract transfers to you. In the US, most commissioned design from an outside supplier is not a work made for hire, so you need a written copyright assignment signed by the owner. UK guidance says contractors usually keep copyright unless the contract says otherwise, and Pakistan's Copyright Ordinance requires assignments in writing. Have a lawyer review the clause; this is general information, not legal advice.
