Pixel2Tech is a design and development studio in Lahore, Pakistan that works with clients in the US, UK and Europe, and offers the video editing services discussed here.
Key takeaways
- US film and video editors earned a median $75,420 a year in May 2025 (BLS); UK video editors earn about £24,000 to £48,000 (National Careers Service).
- On Clutch in September 2026, most US video production firms listed $100 to $199 an hour, while most Pakistani video studios listed under $50.
- Pakistan is 9 to 10 hours ahead of New York and 4 to 5 ahead of London, so US teams get overnight edits and UK and EU teams get same-day revisions.
- Put work-made-for-hire language and a copyright assignment in the contract, and license music in your own name; YouTube's Content ID can block or monetize a claimed video.
- Pay per video while testing, move to a retainer once volume passes the break-even point, and start with a paid test edit on your real footage.

What does it cost to outsource video editing to Pakistan?
Video editing studios in Pakistan charge by the video, by the hour or by the month. On Clutch in September 2026, most Pakistani video studios listed average rates under $50 an hour, against a most common $100 to $199 for US production firms and a US median editor wage of $75,420 a year.
The table puts the options side by side. Salaries are before payroll taxes, benefits, software and hardware; agency rates include management and overhead. Clutch rates are self-reported averages and change as firms join and leave, so treat them as a September 2026 snapshot.
- Price alone is a poor guide. An editor who needs three revision rounds per clip costs more in your time than a pricier one who gets it right the first time.
- Convert every quote into the cost of the same sample job, such as one 60-second vertical ad with captions, three hooks and two revision rounds.
| Option | Typical figure | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| US in-house film and video editor | $75,420 a year median | BLS, May 2025 data; salary only |
| UK in-house video editor | £24,000 to £48,000 a year | National Careers Service, starter to experienced |
| US video production firms on Clutch | Mostly $100 to $199 an hour | Minimum projects mostly $5,000 or $10,000 |
| Pakistani video studios on Clutch | Mostly under $50 an hour | A few list $100 to $149; minimums mostly $1,000 |
| Freelancers on marketplaces | Quoted per video, per finished minute or per hour | Varies too widely to summarize; compare against one sample brief |
Why do US, UK and European brands outsource video editing?
Short-form video changed the math of editing. A brand that once needed one polished video a quarter now needs several cuts a week for Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts and paid ads, each in more than one aspect ratio. That volume is hard to justify with a full-time local hire, and too much for a founder to edit at night.
Editors in Pakistan fill that gap with lower rates, English communication and a time difference that suits overnight turnaround for US clients and same-day revisions for UK and European ones. The software is the same everywhere, so the work does not change with location. What changes is how carefully you brief, hand off files and review.
The brands that get the most from offshore editing tend to have three things: a repeatable format, a brand kit, and one person who gives feedback. If you have those, location matters much less than the editor's taste and reliability.
Which engagement model should you choose?
There are four common ways to buy editing. The right one depends on how many videos you need each month and how steady that number is.
A good freelancer can be excellent value for one style of video. The risk is concentration: one laptop, one internet connection, one person's calendar. A studio costs more per video because it adds backup editors, QA and usually a motion designer. Agencies that resell editing under their own name usually need that backup; our guide to white-label creative for agencies covers the setup.
| Model | Best for | How it is priced | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Per video | Occasional projects, testing a new editor | Fixed price per deliverable | Each job re-briefed from scratch; slower turnaround in busy weeks |
| Monthly retainer | A steady flow of shorts, ads or podcast clips | Monthly fee for a set number of videos or hours | Unused capacity if your filming schedule slips |
| Dedicated editor | Creators and agencies with daily output | Monthly fee for one person's time | No cover when that person is sick or on leave |
| Studio | Brand work that needs editing plus motion graphics, sound and QA | Per project or retainer | Higher price per video than a solo freelancer |
What drives the cost of an edit?
Editing time, not video length, drives the price: footage volume, graphics, versions, revisions and turnaround matter most.
A 30-second ad can take longer than a 10-minute talking-head video. Ask every editor to price against the same list of requirements, and ask what counts as a revision versus a new request.
- Format: talking head, interview, product demo, UGC-style ad, documentary or explainer.
- Raw footage volume: two hours of footage for a one-minute cut means a lot of selecting before editing starts.
- Motion graphics: animated titles, lower thirds, product callouts and logo animation.
- Captions: styled, burned-in captions take real time to check, especially with brand names and US or UK spelling.
- Color and sound: basic correction versus full grading, noise cleanup and mixing.
- Versions: each extra aspect ratio (9:16, 1:1, 16:9) and each extra hook or length is extra work.
- Turnaround: 24-hour delivery costs more than a relaxed schedule because it blocks the editor's day.
Should you pay per video or a monthly retainer?
The break-even point is simple: divide the monthly retainer by the per-video price. If you reliably need more videos than that each month, the retainer is cheaper. If not, pay per video.
The table below is illustrative. We assumed an editor who charges $60 per short or $1,000 a month for up to 20 shorts. These are made-up numbers to show the math, not market rates; plug in your own quotes in whatever currency you are billed.
- In this example, $1,000 divided by $60 is about 16.7, so the retainer only pays off at 17 or more videos a month.
- Use your lowest realistic month, not your best month. Retainers punish months when filming slips.
- A retainer can also bring faster turnaround and a consistent editor, which may justify paying slightly more than per-video pricing.
- Coaches and creators with a weekly publishing rhythm should read our guide to a video editing retainer for coaches, which covers scope and repurposing.
| Videos per month | Per-video total | Retainer | Cheaper option |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 | $480 | $1,000 | Per video |
| 12 | $720 | $1,000 | Per video |
| 17 | $1,020 | $1,000 | Roughly even; retainer slightly cheaper |
| 20 | $1,200 | $1,000 | Retainer |
What turnaround is realistic across time zones?
Pakistan runs on UTC+5 all year with no daylight saving time, per time.is. The gap to your office moves when your clocks change: UK and EU clocks go back on October 25, 2026, and US clocks on November 1, 2026.
- Ask for the team's holiday calendar each quarter. Eid holidays follow the lunar calendar and move every year, so batch work ahead of them.
- Agree a delivery deadline in your own time zone, written into the brief, not a vague "24 hours".
| Your city | Summer time | Winter time | Footage uploaded at 5:00 p.m. arrives |
|---|---|---|---|
| New York (Eastern) | 9 hours | 10 hours | 2:00 a.m. / 3:00 a.m. in Pakistan |
| Los Angeles (Pacific) | 12 hours | 13 hours | 5:00 a.m. / 6:00 a.m. in Pakistan |
| London (UK) | 4 hours | 5 hours | 9:00 p.m. / 10:00 p.m. in Pakistan |
| Berlin, Paris (CET) | 3 hours | 4 hours | 8:00 p.m. / 9:00 p.m. in Pakistan |
US teams: the overnight cycle
Footage uploaded at the end of a US workday lands before the Pakistan workday starts, so an editor can deliver a cut before a New York team logs on. This works for short, templated videos with a clear brief. For a complex first cut, plan two cycles: first cut overnight, one round of consolidated feedback, then the final cut the following night.
UK and European teams: same-day revisions
Assuming a 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Pakistan workday, London shares about five hours of working time in summer and four in winter, and Central European Time about six and five. Send footage in the morning, review a cut after lunch and get revisions back the same day on simple edits.
How do you hand off footage and receive finished files?
A clean handoff means one shared folder you own, a brand kit, reusable templates and a review tool with timecoded comments.
File size is rarely the real limit. Google Drive's help center lists a maximum of up to 5 TB for most file types. Your upload speed is the real constraint, so upload raw footage as soon as filming ends, not the night before a deadline.
Keep the project folder in your company account and give the editor access. When the engagement ends, your footage, exports and project files stay where they are.
- One shared folder per project with a fixed structure: raw, audio, graphics, music, exports, project files.
- A brand kit: logo files, fonts, colors, caption style, intro and outro, and examples of videos you like.
- Templates for recurring formats, such as caption presets and title animations, so every video matches.
- A review tool that supports timecoded comments, so feedback points to an exact frame.
- Clear file naming with version numbers, so nobody reviews an old cut.
- Exports in the exact specs of each platform, plus the editable project file (Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro) with media relinked.
Who owns the edit, and who licenses the music?
Video is one area where US work-made-for-hire rules can cover commissioned work. The definition in 17 U.S.C. § 101 lists part of a motion picture or other audiovisual work among the nine eligible categories, but only with a written agreement signed by both parties that says so. Add a copyright assignment as a backup.
In the UK, the Intellectual Property Office's guidance on ownership of copyright works says a contractor usually keeps copyright unless the contract says otherwise. Pakistan's Copyright Ordinance, 1962 makes the person who commissions a cinematographic work for payment its first owner unless they agree otherwise, and defines that term to include video films of every kind. EU buyers should have a local lawyer check the clause. This is general information, not legal advice.
Music is where many problems start. License tracks in your own name, not the editor's, and keep the license records with each project. On YouTube, a copyright owner's Content ID settings can block a claimed video, monetize it by running ads, or track its viewership, so one unlicensed track can undo a campaign.
- Contract: work-made-for-hire language plus assignment, confidentiality, and your right to all project files.
- Music and stock: licenses held by you, with a list per video.
- Raw footage: stays yours; the editor deletes local copies after an agreed period if you ask.
- Governing law and jurisdiction you are comfortable with, usually your own.
- Portfolio use: allowed or not, stated in writing.
How do you pay an editing team in Pakistan?
Most buyers in the US, UK and Europe use one of three routes. Wise sends money to the studio's local bank account in Pakistan, and the studio does not need a Wise account. Payoneer gives the studio local receiving details in several currencies, so you can pay by ACH, wire, local bank transfer or card, or through a Payoneer invoice or payment link. An international wire to the studio's business account also works, though bank fees can apply on both ends.
If your finance team wants Stripe invoices, ask first: Pakistan is not on Stripe's list of supported countries as of September 2026, so a Pakistani studio can only bill through Stripe from a company registered in a supported country.
UK VAT-registered buyers should note that HMRC's place of supply guidance applies the reverse charge to general-rule B2B services bought from a supplier outside the UK. EU buyers should ask their accountant how the equivalent rule applies locally.
How do you run a paid test edit?
Give two or three shortlisted editors the same real footage, brief and brand kit, and pay each of them their normal rate. Judge the results on the checklist below, not on which one you like best at first glance.
Score each item from one to three and add a note. After two or three test edits, the scores usually make the choice obvious, and the notes become the first version of your editing brief for whoever wins.
- Did they follow the brief: length, hook, captions, call to action?
- Did they ask sensible questions before starting?
- Was the delivery on time in your time zone, with a correctly named file in the right folder?
- How much feedback did the first cut need?
- Did they apply feedback without introducing new mistakes?
- Did they deliver the project file and a list of any music or stock used?

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to outsource video editing to Pakistan?
It depends on format, footage volume, graphics and turnaround. On Clutch in September 2026, most Pakistani video studios listed average rates under $50 an hour, often with $1,000 minimum projects, while most US production firms listed $100 to $199. Freelancers quote per video or per hour. Compare every quote against the same written brief and the same number of revision rounds.
Can an editor in Pakistan deliver overnight for US clients?
Often, yes, for short and templated videos. Pakistan is 9 hours ahead of New York until November 1, 2026 and 10 hours after, so footage uploaded at 5:00 p.m. Eastern arrives in the middle of the Pakistan night and can be edited during the next workday. Complex first cuts need a feedback conversation, so plan two overnight cycles for those.
Is outsourcing video editing to Pakistan practical for UK and European teams?
Yes, and the overlap is better than for US teams. Pakistan is 4 hours ahead of London and 3 ahead of Berlin until October 25, 2026, then 5 and 4. On a standard Pakistan workday, that leaves several shared working hours, enough for a morning brief, an afternoon review and same-day revisions on simple edits.
Who is responsible for music licensing?
You are, in practice, because the video is published on your channels. License music and stock in your own name, keep a record for each video, and tell your editor which library to use. On YouTube, a copyright owner's Content ID settings can block, monetize or track a video with claimed music, so an unlicensed track can cause real problems.
How do I send large raw footage files?
Use one shared cloud folder in your company account with a fixed structure for raw footage, audio, graphics and exports. Google Drive accepts individual files of up to 5 TB for most file types, so your upload speed is usually the real limit. Start uploading as soon as filming ends, and use clear file names so the editor knows which clips matter.
